A Buddy Bench is a special bench where students can sit at recess if they would like to make a new friend. Other children then go to the bench and ask the person if they want to play or talk. These benches have been installed in school yards all around the world in the hope of encouraging compassion and kindness.
From 2016 to 2018, the Rotary Club of LaSalle Centennial provided Buddy Benches for the primary student playgrounds at LaSalle Public, Holy Cross and Prince Andrew schools. As a club which is focused on peace and conflict resolution/prevention, Rotary LaSalle hopes these benches can help promote a positive school climate by helping students build healthy relationships and develop empathy and understanding for each other.
